Unfortunately, over the weekend, the popular host became ill with a stomach virus. Gayle King stepped in to explain why Winfrey was absent.\n\n\n\n
\u201cMs. Winfrey is recovering following a stomach virus and received an IV due to dehydration at the recommendation of her doctor,\u201d a representative for Winfrey told CNN in a statement on Tuesday. \u201cShe is resting and feeling better every day.\u201d\n\n\n\n
In a video call posted on Gayle King\u2019s Instagram page, Winfrey told her best friend and journalist that she \u201ccouldn\u2019t keep enough water down to keep her hydrated,\u201d which led her to seek hospital\n\n\n\n
King told viewers that Winfrey will ultimately \u201cbe OK\u201d following the health setback.\n\n\n\n
\u201c[I hope] she\u2019s not mad at me for sharing that detail,\u201d she added.\n\n\n\n
In a joint interview for the New York Times in January, Winfrey and King enthusiastically praised each other and discussed the reasons behind their strong friendship.\n\n\n\n
\u201cShe is a blunt truth-teller. Even if you don\u2019t want to hear it,\u201d King said of Winfrey at the time. \u201c[We] enjoy each other very, very much.\u201d\n\n\n\n
