Pattie Mellette is best known today as the mother of musical sensation Justin Beiber, even though she was also a producer and screenwriter.
However, few people know her or the challenges she has faced over the years.
One of the biggest performers in the world, Justin Bieber is a Canadian who many people think has everything they could ever want.
Even celebrities, though, have issues and crises, often without the public completely understanding them.It is hardly surprising that Justin Bieber and his mother, Pattie Malette, have had a turbulent relationship given her challenging childhood.
French-Canadian Pattie Mallette was born on April 2, 1975, in Stratford, Ontario. Sadly, she suffered an incomprehensible loss during her formative years. Pattie’s 5-year-old sister, Sally, passed away tragically when she was struck by a car at the age of two while crossing the street. This horrific event would have a lasting effect on Pattie’s family and early years.
Pattie gave birth to Justin while she was only 17. Since she was single at the time, she was used to conquering obstacles.According to the Daily Mail, Pattie raised Justin alone herself in a low-income Canadian apartment. She received some help from her parents, Justin’s grandparents.
According to Pattie, she was abused and subjected to violence for years, starting at the age of three. She explained:
“Among my offenders are a male babysitter, a friend’s grandfather, and children in the neighborhood who are allegedly older than their years,” she says.
At the age of fourteen, she began using a variety of narcotics. During this period, she also began stealing from businesses and was expelled from school for starting a bathroom fire.Regretfully, the novel’s sexual abuse continued. In her memoir, Patti describes how she was raped on a date when she was fifteen.
As the years went by, I had so many sexual attacks that it became commonplace. “It’s a weird marriage—knowing something is wrong but finding it familiar and normal,” she said.
As a child, Mallette developed a penchant for singing and performing. She started making appearances on local television shows at the age of nine, such as Romper Room and Big Top Talent, a children’s talent show that was broadcast in her neighborhood.
At the age of fifteen, she began dating Jeremy Beiber. Their four-year relationship ended when the kid fled home at the age of sixteen. She sold drugs and stole to make ends meet.
Mallette reportedly said to George Stroumboulopoulos, “My childhood was really painful,” according to Cosmopolitan. “I kind of bond with Justin because we both love the arts.”
As her current and old behaviors caught up with her, her mental state deteriorated.
After experiencing a prolonged period of despair and thoughts of suicide, the 17-year-old made an attempt at suicide. She was sent to a mental health hospital that used Christian conversion therapy.
After being released from the hospital, Mallette contacted former coworkers and friends who did not share her newfound religious beliefs. This is when she contacted Jeremy Beiber again.
Six months after they began dating, Pattie found out she was expecting a child. Justin was born in London, Ontario, on March 1, 1994.
After their baby was born, Pattie and Jeremy continued dating for a little while before deciding to break up a few months later.
Despite everything that had occurred to her, Pattie was a supportive and present mother. She supported Justin in pursuing his love of music and assisted him in competing in the 2007 Stratford Star talent show as a teenager.
The now-famous musician placed second with his rendition of Ne-Yo’s “So Sick,” and Pattie posted the video of his victory to YouTube. The video, along with the others she continued to share online, gained a lot of notoriety over time.
Mallette’s memoirs were published in September 2012 by the Christian publishing company Revell.
The focus of the book “Nowhere But Up” was Pattie’s difficult upbringing and how she used love and faith to overcome it and become the best single parent she could be for her kid.
Now, their connection is different.
“When your kids hit a certain age, your parenting style changes and it is hard letting go,” Mallette said to People when her son turned 19.
“Because his life was my life, I’ve had to let him go a little and let him be independent.” It’s challenging to not be able to watch after your adult child at all times.
After his enormous success, Justin Bieber was facing legal troubles. In 2014, he was arrested when police were forced to stop him for street racing at around 4 a.m.
The incident led to a decline in the mother-son connection.
I never wanted my mother to feel that way about me because I knew she was disappointed in me. We were silent for a while, and it takes time to rebuild that trust. It’s difficult, but getting better. In 2015, the star told Billboard, “She’s an amazing woman and I love her,” according to Cosmopolitan.
But that period of Justin’s life is now almost forgotten, and Pattie is quite proud of her son.
“I’m incredibly proud of the amazing young man you are and the person you’re becoming.” Even though none of us are perfect and never will be, so we will always need grace and patience for one another, your wonderful “fruit” and daily decisions show that you are sincerely forming a relationship with Jesus. I admire your morals and personality. “You’re becoming smart and pretty for your age,” she posted on Instagram.
Despite her childhood struggles, Pattie’s path to grace is a source of great inspiration. Please share this story on Facebook if you agree!
